How the Zonelectro Score Works

Two different scores, two different origins
Zonelectro shows two kinds of rating, and they should not be confused.
1. The "Score" and rating shown on a product page
This badge (e.g. "Score 87.3" or a rating out of 5) is a technical value recorded in our data catalog, computed by the data source from the product's specs. It is not a customer review verified by Zonelectro, nor the result of a test run by our team. Treat it as a rough, indicative reference point.
2. The comparison tool and "Best of" score
This is a score Zonelectro computes itself, only when you compare products against each other (comparison tool, "Best X" pages, guided modes like "Best camera"). The rest of this page explains that calculation in detail.
How the comparator score is calculated
For the compared products, Zonelectro identifies the technical dimensions relevant to the product's category: display, performance (CPU/RAM), storage, camera, battery — and price.
For each dimension, every compared product's raw value is scaled to a 0-1 range, relative to the other products in that specific comparison: the strongest product on that dimension scores 1, the weakest scores 0, others fall in between. The score is therefore relative to the compared group, not absolute — the same phone can get a different score depending on what it's compared against.
Each dimension is then multiplied by a weight that depends on the chosen mode (see table below), and the results are summed and expressed out of 100.
Price is handled the same way (the cheapest product scores most favorably on that dimension) when the chosen mode assigns it a weight.
If no reliable data exists for a given dimension across the compared products, that dimension simply contributes nothing to the score — it is never invented or estimated.
Weights by mode
Balanced: camera 20% · battery 20% · performance 20% · display 20% · memory/storage 10% · price 10%.
Best camera: camera 60% · performance 15% · display 15% · price 10%.
Best battery life: battery 60% · performance 15% · price 15% · display 10%.
Best value for money: price 50% · performance 20% · battery 15% · camera 10% · display 5%.

Not every mode is available for every product category — a mode only appears when the category has data for at least one of the dimensions it weights.
A camera-specific adjustment
Raw megapixel count is primarily a marketing number, not a reliable measure of real photo quality — many budget phones advertise 200 MP while flagship models known for their cameras report 48 or 50. To stop a plain high megapixel count from artificially dominating this dimension, Zonelectro compresses the megapixel gap (square root) before using it in the score: the effect of doubling megapixels is dampened rather than counted at face value. When an independent photo-quality measurement exists for a product, it's factored in alongside the megapixel count.
Displayed precision
The "Score" shown on a product page is stored with at most one decimal place in our data catalog — we do not add extra precision that would give a false impression of accuracy.
Data updates
The comparator score is recalculated on every comparison, from the most recent data available for each product at the time you view it.
