MacBook Pro not responding: quick checks before you worry
Charging, firmware update mode, restarting, software updates: the checklist to run through before suspecting a hardware failure.
Check the power first
Before any other theory, plug the computer into a working outlet with the correct power adapter and wait at least 15 minutes: a MacBook that looks dead may simply be out of battery.
A particular state that looks like a failure
The Mac can get stuck in a firmware update mode (DFU), which temporarily makes the screen unresponsive. The MagSafe adapter light turning off is a clue for this state — it isn't necessarily a hardware failure.
Restarting — always the first software step
A simple restart clears memory and reloads system processes, which is often enough to tell a purely software issue apart from a real hardware problem.
Updates — a frequently overlooked cause
An outdated macOS or firmware can cause behavior that looks like a failure. Check that no update is pending before going any further.
Only then, look toward hardware
Once these checks are done, move on to the specific diagnostics: display, ports, sound, connectivity, or battery, depending on the symptom observed.
