Essential safety guidelines before using an LG air conditioner
Electrical wiring, refrigerant, remote control batteries: the safety points to know before first use.

The electrical connection comes first
The cable linking the indoor and outdoor units must be positioned so it never pulls on the connection terminals, and must be able to withstand normal mechanical stress. A poor connection, or a dirty, loose, or broken connector, can lead to overheating or even fire — check the plug's condition before pushing it fully into the outlet rather than forcing a questionable connector.
Grounding isn't optional
The unit must always be connected to a properly grounded outlet. Removing the ground pin from the plug, or assuming a metal screw on the wall outlet's cover is enough to ground the unit, doesn't actually protect against electric shock. If you're unsure about the wiring, have an electrician check the circuit rather than plugging the unit in regardless. An adapter or extension cord, even as a temporary fix, is discouraged for the same reason.
The refrigerant needs its own attention
The label on the unit states which refrigerant to use — the wrong one will hurt the unit's normal operation. After any installation or repair, always check for leaks: an insufficient refrigerant level can cause a breakdown, while a leak found during installation means ventilating the room immediately. If flammable gas leaks, shut off the gas supply and open a window before restarting the unit — never use a phone or flip a switch nearby in that situation.
Everyday habits that prevent accidents
Never touch the unit with wet hands, never place a heater near the power cord, never open the front grille while the unit is running, and always cut the power before cleaning or repairing it. If you notice an unusual noise, smell, or smoke, cut the breaker immediately. Ventilate the room regularly, especially during extended use in an enclosed space or alongside another heating appliance.
Remote control batteries — an often underrated risk
Never mix old and new batteries, or different types, and never try to recharge or take them apart. If battery fluid leaks onto skin or clothing, rinse thoroughly with clean water; if swallowed, brush your teeth and see a doctor rather than using the remote.
