Before opening your ROG Zephyrus Duo: the precautions to follow
Electrostatic discharge, power cables, moisture: the safety checklist before any repair, even a simple one.
Keep every liquid and any moisture away
No liquid should be anywhere near the computer before installing or removing a component, and the machine should sit on a stable surface throughout the repair.
Unplug before touching anything
Always disconnect all power cables, and remove the battery if the model allows it, before cleaning the computer with a liquid detergent (risk of electric shock) or before installing or removing any component. Unplug the power cord by pulling it evenly, never with a sharp tug, to avoid damage. Detach the clip or retaining flap before removing a signal cable, to avoid damaging it.
Electrostatic discharge — a real risk to components
Before handling anything inside, use a grounded anti-static wrist strap, or touch a properly grounded object. Components should always be held by their edges, never by touching the integrated circuits.
Use the right parts, never generic ones
Never use a power adapter or battery from another device: the risk of fire or explosion is real. Only certified adapters and batteries, supplied by the manufacturer or an authorized retailer, should be used. Likewise, putting back the correct screw model prevents damage to the device — a deformed screw, one with a damaged head, chipped paint, or signs of rust should never be reused.
Reconnect power last
Every component must be correctly installed before plugging the computer back into AC power — never the other way around.
