The C15/C30/C60/C120 high-speed frame capture modes on the Nikon Z8

Four rates, one shared principle

The Z8 offers four ultra-high-speed continuous shooting modes — C15, C30, C60, and C120 — which take photographs at 15, 30, 60, or 120 fps respectively while the shutter-release button stays pressed.

Restrictions that shift with the frame rate

The available image area depends directly on the chosen rate: at C15 or C30, you can choose between FX (36x24) and DX (24x16); at C60, only DX is available; at C120, only FX is. Pictures are always recorded in JPEG format, with a fixed size of Large for the C15, C30, and C60 modes, and Small for C120.

A burst that starts before the full press

These modes include Pre-Release Capture: the final photos may include the last frames buffered while the shutter-release button is simply held halfway, before it's even pressed all the way down. The exact behavior of this buffering is customized through Custom Setting d3.
