Buying Guide: Choosing a Nokia Smartphone
The Nokia brand, revived by HMD Global, focuses on durability and a near-stock version of Android.

The Nokia brand for mobile phones is currently operated under license by the Finnish company HMD Global, since 2016, after Microsoft acquired and later sold off the former Nokia's phone business. HMD Global sells phones under both the Nokia brand and, more recently, its own HMD brand.
What sets Nokia (HMD Global) smartphones apart
Nokia smartphones sold by HMD Global have traditionally focused on a close-to-stock version of Android (Android One on several models), with minimal software overlay, and on a reputation for durability inherited from the historic brand. They run standard Google services (Play Store, Gmail, Maps).
Things to check before buying
- Android version and update program: some models are part of the Android One program (guaranteed updates for a defined period) — check whether the model you're interested in qualifies.
- Price segment: the Nokia range mainly covers entry-level and mid-range devices — compare specifications (processor, RAM, camera) against competing models at the same price before choosing.
- Repair service availability: as with any brand, check for an authorized repair network in your country, especially for an imported device.
