MacBook Pro: diagnosing keyboard, trackpad, Touch ID, and ports
Sticky keys, an erratic trackpad, Touch ID that stops recognizing you, a USB-C port that detects nothing: the essential checks before concluding it's broken.

The keyboard
Liquid damage, keys that stick or stop responding, often share the same root cause: moisture or debris. Check for signs of moisture, clean the keyboard, turn off the Mouse Keys accessibility feature (which can interfere), and check that the Caps Lock indicator reacts normally.
Keyboard backlight
Liquid damage or a covered ambient light sensor are the most common causes. Check the backlight settings in System Settings, make sure the sensor near the camera isn't obstructed, and confirm automatic brightness adjustment is turned on.
The trackpad
Moisture, debris, or a failing internal cable explain most issues. Clean the surface, adjust sensitivity in the settings, and disconnect any Bluetooth device that might be interfering with the pointer.
Power button and Touch ID
Failed fingerprint recognition often comes from a dirty or damp sensor or fingers — clean them before anything else. Also check that the power button responds normally after a restart.
USB-C, Thunderbolt, HDMI ports, and the SD card slot
A port that stops detecting anything is usually due to debris or liquid damage. Inspect and gently clean with a soft, non-metallic brush; for the SD slot, also check the compatibility of the card being used.
If none of this works
All of these fault categories can be investigated further with Apple's diagnostic suites before considering a part replacement.
