iPad Pro: diagnosing battery and charging issues

Won't turn on, won't charge, drains too fast: the checking method before considering a repair.

iPad Pro: diagnosing battery and charging issues

Clean and check the charging equipment

Clear debris from the charging port with a soft brush, use an Apple-recommended power adapter and cable, and try different combinations of cables and adapters, flipping the cable's orientation and reseating connections.

Give it time before assuming a fault

A deeply discharged battery may need 20 to 30 minutes of charging before the device shows any sign of life at all.

The most common causes

A dirty connector, an incompatible charger, a faulty cable, or an intermittent connection problem are the most frequent leads behind an iPad that won't turn on, won't charge, drains too fast, or won't hold a charge.

When to see a repair service

If the device shows no sign of activity after ten minutes of proper charging, or if connection problems persist despite cables that are in good condition, professional service becomes necessary. On the newest models (iPad Air M2 and later, iPad Pro M4 and later, iPad mini A17 Pro, base iPad A16), the USB-C connector, the battery, or the whole device may be replaced depending on the fault identified.
