Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair: testing your iPad Pro remotely

A diagnostic driven from a second device

This tool identifies hardware issues on the iPad by running tests remotely from another device. You access the online portal from a Mac, PC, iPhone, or another iPad, then enter the serial number of the iPad being tested to start a diagnostic session while it's in diagnostics mode.

What it actually lets you do

The test suite performs various hardware checks. It helps isolate the cause of a problem, determine whether a part genuinely needs replacing, and confirm that a repair actually fixed the issue. For an iPad specifically, available tests cover things like display pixels, camera quality, Face ID sensors on relevant models, and audio components.

What you need before starting a test

The iPad must be running iPadOS 17 or later, with an active Wi-Fi connection to take part in the diagnostic session.
